Change Requires a Clear Vision
If you want to bring meaningful change, you must first have a clear vision. More importantly, that vision needs to be simple enough for others to understand, believe in, and support.
Why do many leaders struggle to create lasting change during their tenure? In my view, it is often because they lack a clear vision, or their perspective is limited to what they already know. Without a compelling destination, it becomes difficult to mobilize people, resources, and momentum.
I recall joining a Transformation Trip with the John Maxwell Team several years ago. During the launch event, we had the opportunity to meet with the Vice Minister of Education in Guatemala. John Maxwell asked him what he hoped to achieve during his term in office.
His answer was simple and powerful.
He said he had two years remaining in his term, and his goal was to ensure that every high school student in the country would be exposed to Value-Based Leadership principles before graduation. The vision was clear. The objective was specific. He also made it clear that he would bring together all necessary stakeholders to make it happen.
Today, leadership and values-based education have become part of the high school experience across Guatemala.
Knowing what we want to achieve is one thing. Knowing how to implement it and having the discipline to follow through is equally important.
Leadership is not only about creating a vision. It is about sustaining momentum, aligning people, and remaining committed until the vision becomes reality.
When the vision is clear and the commitment is strong, almost anything is possible.
