The difference between Interested and Interesting!

The difference between Interested and Interesting!

Many of us may have heard these two words” Interesting” and “Interested”. I remember having a coaching session with my friend and mentor, Ron Kaufman, and he asks me this question “do you know the meaning of interesting and interested?” I paused for a moment and responded to Ron; “that’s a good question”. With a smile, we continued our conversation.

That made me think a little bit deeper about it. Since then, I have been studying this and most importantly understanding the behaviours that are associated with this.

Do you ever remember a moment that you saw an advertisement for an online Webinar; the moment you came across you must have thought “oh this is an interesting topic”, you would then register to attend. But for some reason on the same day of the event, (though you were free during the event scheduled time); did not participate in the Webinar (regardless of the reminder from the organizers). So what happened here? Well, initially you thought the Webinar was interesting; but if you were interested in the topic, you would have set the time, adjusted your schedule and will attend.

When you are interested in something; you will put the effort against all the odds to be there and take active participation. Being interested comes with commitment, the mindset of getting it done and putting the energy and enthusiasm that particular “interested” project deserves.

If we want to achieve greater things, we don’t want to keep saying its interesting, instead, we need to say “I am interested in it” and let’s do it!.

People who are interested to get things done; they deliver results, and they achieve significant milestones.
