Leadership Shines Through Selfless Service
True leadership is tested not when things go smoothly, but when we are called to serve selflessly.
I’ve had the privilege of leading, hosting, and curating some of the best events Maldives has seen—made possible through the trust of our co-founders, the support of MAHRP and MPSA EXCO, and the contributions of many passionate individuals.
September 5th was a reminder of what real leadership looks like. Just 12 hours before the Maldives Professional Speakers Summit 2025, one of our contributors informed us they couldn’t deliver the event banners. With the event the next morning, on a public holiday, there was no chance of finding another provider.
Without hesitation, Ali Adam – General Secretary of MAHRP, together with Shareef and Fahudu from our EXCO, stepped in. They sourced wood from a sawmill, cut it to size, and spent the entire night assembling the banners. By 5 a.m., the work was done—at a standard that rivaled any professional service. Few knew this story until I shared it, but it became a defining theme of the Summit.
This is self-leadership and selfless service in action. Instead of complaining or waiting for someone else to solve the problem, they took ownership and made it happen.
It’s why MAHRP and MPSA deliver results—because of the countless, unseen hours of dedication from its members and EXCO.
Anyone can lead when they’re paid to do so. But real leadership is proven when you give your time, energy, and effort purely in service of others.
